Think Safety

Think Safety

With the approaching growing season’s heavy work load, remember to “THINK SAFETY.”  Long hours lead to fatigue.  When you are tired, poor decisions can be made, which can impact your safety and the safety of others.  “TAKE A BREAK” and get out of the cab to take a walk around, hydrate, have a snack, and,  if necessary, take a nap.

Plan safety meetings with your team throughout the upcoming growing season. Dairy farms will be moving and applying animal wastes. Does everyone know the dangers and precautions needed around animal waste structures and equipment?  How are the planter and tillage equipment hitch pins? Transport pins in good shape (new ones can be inexpensive insurance)?  What about tires?  Amount of wear and proper air pressures? Fire protection?

Do trucks and other motorized equipment have proper and updated fire extinguishers? Be aware of neighbors and other on road traffic.  Courtesy goes a long way to being a positive neighbor and can help your farm in terms of public relations. Hard to overestimate the benefit of happy neighbors.

Carovail takes safety serious with all of our facilities certified under the Responsible Ag program. Facilities are evaluated for safe working conditions as well as equipment, ensuring safe operations at the facilities in the field and on the road. This program is critical in keeping employees, customers, and communities safe.  Monthly and timely safety meetings with staff and contracted employees are held to do everything that we can to ensure safe operations.

TAKE A BREAK!  THINK SAFETY!  COMMUNICATE!  If we do those things, then we should all have a safe and productive 2017 growing season.
